Former Board member, Good Neighbour Council of NSW; former Principal Social Worker, Settlement Services, Department of Immigration; and former honorary consultant to ECC of NSW and to FECCA.
It meant that they greeted people. They'd go to their homes when they arrived and they'd greet them. Find out what they might need about schools or did they know where the nearest church was or did they know about voting, did they know how to - they usually knew how to approach Immigration. Financial matters like Migrant Information Services at banks were very active in those years in helping immigrants set up bank accounts, advise them on all sorts of things.
